IHE Radiation Oncology addresses information sharing, workflow, and patient care in radiation oncology.

IHE Radiation Oncology is sponsored by the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO) and manages the Radiation Oncology Profiles and the Radiation Oncology Technical Framework.

The Radiation Oncology Roadmap will outline goals and plans over the next 5-10 years.


Current Activity

IHE Radiation Oncology is preparing for its first formal Connectathon (August 27-31, 2007, ASTRO HQ, Fairfax, VA) and subsequent Public Demonstration (October 28- November 1, 2007, Los Angeles, CA).

The following Supplements were released for Public Comment on August 20, 2007.

The Public Comment period will end on November 2, 2007. Comments may be submitted to: http://forums.rsna.org under the “IHE” forum. Select the “Radiation Oncology Technical Framework” sub-forum.

Profile Selection

The process for specifying, prioritizing and selecting profiles is described here, and templates are available for a Brief_Proposal_Template and Detailed_Proposal_Template.


These Brief Profile Proposals were submitted for the 2007-8 Development Cycle:

  • Multimodality Registration
  • Dose Compositing
  • Clinical Trials Submission
  • Treatment Delivery Workflow
  • Advanced Integration Objects

During the PC meetings of August 28 and October 29, 2007, the following Brief Profile Proposals were identified and submitted for consideration in the 2008-9 Development Cycle. At the PC meeting of October 29, 2007 the profiles where discussed and placed in the following rank of importance for discussion with the TC meeting of October 31, 2007.
