Status/Discussion:

Manny described the purpose of today’s meeting as beginning discussion of the structure. Khalil suggested a structure that encourages visitors to see all of PCD. Nishan suggested we leverage the tools available to increase PCD visibility. For example a clickable option to describe the various demonstrations, web cameras to show traffic in various options. Al noted that the existing structure has good interior space for the hardware. Another approach is a long wall, perhaps in two sections. Manny asked for the role of the clinical story and whether a single story (clinical or not) shows all sending and receiving systems. Khalil suggested that two walls in parallel would enable a person to see the message of the sort “common language to share data” and that the clinical stories in 2011 were very similar. Al suggested that one wall would provide the clinical story and another focus on specific profiles. Scott followed up, noting that the first portion provides an overview of all profiles and the rest focuses on what the benefits of each separately. He suggested that we spend too much time developing the clinical story. Al and Scott suggested that the clinical story is not important as long as PCD makes it clear that it supports the various clinical environments (ED, OR, ICU, etc.). The specific profile areas will have device demonstrations. John Garguilo noted that with a visitor’s ability to remain focused for 20 minutes or less, it will require care in developing the overview. Khalil referred to the RFID booth near the PCD area. They did an introduction to all the features (analogous to talking about all profiles) then they demonstrated data flow. He noted that this will take more effort to develop the demonstration. We will need to address the equality issue. Al asked if we will need to discuss this in depth at the face to face. A linear structure would be preferred. Questions: How much flexibility do we have in presentation and structure? Should we proceed on this path for 2012?

In summary, this approach promotes the ability to display the wide scope of PCD profiles, their potential to benefit the clinical experience/environment, to make more efficient and effective use of the visitors’ time, enable discussion of those components of PCD’s work that interests specific visitors. It may address the issues of equal time for the various profiles, but does not address PCD’s concerns over receiving the right set of visitors.
