Data Element Enhancement - Change Proposal for PRPH-ca
1. Proposed Work Item: CHANGE PROPOSAL for Physician Reporting to a Public Health Repository – Cancer Registry (PRPH-ca)
- Proposal Editor: Wendy Scharber, Wendy Blumenthal
- Editor: <One Of> Wendy Scharber, Wendy Blumenthal
- Domain: Quality, Research and Public Health (QRPH), National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR), North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR)
2. The Problem
The first version of the IHE-QRPH PRPH profile is intended to be evaluative to determine the capabilities of EMR’s to report relevant information. The structure of existing data elements may not meet the needs of the public health cancer registry. Additionally, new data elements are required in order for the registries to meet the objectives of the CDC-NPCR’s Comparative Effective Research (CER) initiatives.

5. Discussion
The authors of the IHE-QRPH PRPH propose modify existing data elements to allow information to be reported in discrete/coded format, rather than text. They also will be adding additional data elements to meet the new requirements of public health cancer registries.
The US Constrained data element optionality will also be changed to reflect the consensus of the cancer registry community. The authors propose collaborating with the German Cancer Registry (and possibly other national cancer registries) to improve the profile to meet their needs.
