Meeting Notes

Pulse Oximetry Requirements Analysis Comments - Sean stated that Ioana and Toni had previously discussed presenting to clinicians for additional input on the use case. He asked if this had occurred. No one on the call was aware if this presentation had occurred. Toni Phillips asked if Ioana has finalized the summary deck to go out to clinicians. Serafina will follow up with Ioana to determine the status of this briefing. Toni will distribute the requirements analysis document.

Rob Rawlins introduced Robin Waggoner who supports the product line for RS02 oximeters. Robin will provide comments on the diagram. Rob stated that Robin may be able to provide in put on appropriate alarms. Robin stated that there can be a visual alarm along with an audio alarm. This is a different issue but something to consider. You could minimize the sound but change the font color for example. Clinicians are very visual. Rob agreed that it could be important to have a notification that an alarm has been silenced. Robin stated that everything a clinician does to a monitor should be recorded in the documentation. She is not certain how this could be done, but it could be a good risk management step. Serafina suggested this operator involvement with the pulse oximeter might be recorded in the diagram along with "attaches probe, configures probe, verifies result". Robin will provide this information in her comments. Tom Bauld agreed that this is good information to have. It is difficult to determine which alarms are valid and how they are addressed. This approach is similar to what is done with the infusion pumps that document what is done with them. Rob suggested including this as an optional rather than required feature in the model.

Rob suggested reviewing the values in the diagram with Robin to ensure that they work for RS02. For example, Rob referenced body sites. Robin suggested that the sites be regional. For example, a leg is a region rather than an organ. The model should support RS02 devices. Toni asked if organ and region should be in separate boxes in the model. Robin stated that there is also a question if region incorporates organ or if you need both. Rob suggested having body sites for RS02 and SDO2 separate. There could be different choices for clinicians based on what sensor is being used.

Toni asked if quarterly updates and maintenance of devices is in scope. Rob stated that making sure devices have the same software could be an issue. Serafina suggested submitting this question as a comment. Toni feels there should be standardization of device set up. She will submit this as a comment. Don explained the process for maintaining and updating devices in VA. He is not certain that this falls under the scope of this use case.

Rob stated that a previous call discussed the age of information and its validity. There are changes between how RS02 data ages and how SDO2 data does. Robin will review this in the document.
