1. Proposed Workitem: Value sets for coded entry and/or structured reports in anatomic pathology

  • Editors: Vincenzo Della Mea, Christel Daniel

2. The Problem

Different standardisation efforts in anatomic pathology define coded field/items in the architecture of messages or documents. There is a need to define a technical solution to define, manage, mainain and share the value sets corresponding to these coded items.

3. Key Use Case

Defining and sharing value sets or the transactions defined in the IHE Anatomic Patology TF and/or the e-Path (NAACCR) espacially the value sets related to specimen identification and description and to specific anatmic pathology observation and/or diagnostic codes.

  • HL7 v2.5 transactions (MSH, PID, PV1, OCR, OBR, OBX, SPM) : Placer Order Management, Filler Order management, Order Result Management, Procedure Scheduled and update) : SPM segment : Specimen Type, Specimen Additives, Specimen Roles, Specimen Availability
  • DICOM transactions : Specimen module : Container Types, Container component Types, Anatomic Pathology Specimen Types, Breast Tissue Specimen Types, Specimen Collection Procedures, Specimen Sampling Procedures, Specimen Stains, Specimen Prepartion Types, Specimen Fixative, Specimen Embedding Material.

4. Standards & Systems

  • IHE integration profile : The IHE domain "Information Technology Infrastructure" has defined an integration profile defining a process allowing "Sharing Value Set".
  • Information models and value sets
    • HL7 Tables
    • HL7 v3 models & vocabulary
    • DICOM model & data dictionary
  • Code systems
    • SNOMED CT
    • LOINC
    • CPT
    • ADICAP
  • Terminology services
    • Sharing Value Sets
    • HSSP - CTS2 : The OMG is defining an implementation guide for terminology services based on the specification of Common Terminology Services 2
