Basic Radiation Therapy Objects - II updates and replaces BRTO.

Summary

The emphasis for this integration profile is on reducing ambiguity and facilitating basic interoperability in the exchange of DICOM RT objects. The Basic Radiation Therapy Objects II Integration Profile involves the flow of DICOM® images and treatment planning data, from CT scan through dose display, for 3D conformal, external beam radiation therapy.

Benefits

By bringing the information that flows between planning, treatment and reporting into common understanding, miscommunication is reduced, saving physician time, and allowing patient treatment to be maximized.

Details

The Basic RT Objects profile uses common device roles, or actors, to help define what inputs and outputs are expected between devices. These actors include: - Contourer - Dosimetric Planner - Dose Displayer - Archive

Systems Affected

  • PACS or Treatment Management systems may store, manage, and/or display Evidence Documents.
  • Treatment PLanning Systems or Quality Assurance Systems may query, retrieve and display Evidence Documents.
  • Treatment Planning Systems will allow contouring of regions of interest on an image set, and allow generation of an RT Structure Set
  • Treatment Planning Systems may generate a treatment plan including planned dose.
  • A Treatment Management System or Treatment Delivery Machine may consume and act on a well-formed dosimetric plan.
