2. The Problem

There is no standard method for observing and gathering health indicators for actors such as queue depths.

When an exam is overdue, it is often difficult to figure out where in the workflow it "got stuck".

It would be useful to be able to do data mining on departmental activities, or to use such statistics for process improvement, however such information today is extremely fragmented. It's in different formats, different levels of detail and often requires knowing "secret handshakes" to access, if it's available at all.

These are the kind of tools that should be available for Radiology to operate like a modern datacenter.

3. Key Use Case

Diagnosing Disrupted Workflows

At Mayo, to figure out where a missing exam is "stuck", we custom wrote DBase qry and report tools that paint out entire workflow on a web page and chart out

order-->RIS--->WklistBroker---->Modality---->PACS---->Archive--->Clinical Viewer

So to find an Exam, one enters the the Accession and tracks the progress across the above chain as well as the status of the order in each actor.
