1. Proposed Profile: Systems Monitoring

  • Proposal Editor: Steve Langer
  • Date: N/A (Wiki keeps history)
  • Version: N/A (Wiki keeps history)
  • Domain: <Domain name (ie. Radiology)>

2. The Problem

This profile would permit observe ring the queue depths and other health indicators for Actors, as well as support data mining. For instance, at Mayo, to figure out where a missing exam is "stuck", we custom wrote DBase qry and report tools that paint out entire workflow on a web page and chart out

order-->RIS--->WklistBroker---->Modality---->PACS---->Archive--->Clinical Viewer

So to find an Exam, one enters the the Accession and tracks the progress across the above chain as well as the status of the order in each actor.

This should not have been as hard as it was, and require one to know as many secret handshakes as it did. In fact, it should be possible for a third party company to make Dashboards that can do this for arbitrary Actor vendors that comply with the profile. It's too bad this idea will have to wait another year.
