Minutes

1. LAW vol 2 – Ed

A. The team is looking at the messaging aspects. Once the team has reviewed the business objects, it will be opened up to the whole team. They have reviewed the patient objects. Anticipated to be completed by the end of this month. They are identifying the HL7 mapping and objects. There is a link to the google docs if folks wish to review the items.
B. http://wiki.ihe.net/index.php?title=Laboratory_Analytical_Workflow#Messaging_Business_Objects
C. Ed reviewed the messaging business objects which are planned to be reviewed in order over the next few weeks.
D. IICC has new website to be announced this week. It will be shared with folks when launched.

2. Next meetings

A. Next Face to Face Meeting Tokyo Sept 19-21. Folks may begin making their travel plans. Agenda of this meeting will include
i. Finishing LAW profile trial implementation release.
ii. Election of the LAB domain representative to the IHE Board.
iii. Work on new supplements to the LAB TF. Francois will post today the request for new supplement proposals on google groups.
B. Next regular 1 hour IHE Lab call will be June 21, 2011 at 7am CST/ 8am EST (NY). Please read the wiki page, and google groups documents on the LOINC codes and be ready to discuss on this call.

3. Assignment of incoming change proposals (#168, #169). They need to be assigned to committee members so they can be updated. Normally, a technical co chair performs this. Sondra being temporarily away, Francois proposes to finalize the CPs himself and then they will be submitted via ballot. He’ll wait until the end of this month to collect other potential change proposals, to batch them together.

4. LOINC

A. LOINC meeting today at Regenstrief Institute in Indianapolis
B. Project to identify LOINC codes for IVD products (Rob Bush)
i. See LOINC planning Memo 7June 11 document which provides an overview of the LOINC codes and the IVD industry. There is a proposal to have a tool to map the IVD vendor codes to their assays run on their analyzers. Rob has discussed with Clem and Regenstrief. Helpful ways to collect and distribute the information on the vendor LOINC codes.
ii. Question about assays performed on different specimens on the same analyzer. Concern that a vendor doesn’t want too many codes. There will be much work for laboratory staff and vendors to support many LOINC codes. No timetable established yet. One step needed is to identify point people at vendors. Beckman Coulter has LOINC codes in a document, which has been reviewed by Clem. What’s the advantage of having this document as opposed to having the analyzer insert the LOINC code as the analyte is being analyzed. We can’t change transmission codes of analyzers out there now. We want to avoid mistakes. Proposal is to have laboratory personnel link the LIS data dictionary and add LOINC codes.
iii. As a vendor puts the tables together and we look at the IICC-IHE lab interface with these LOINC codes, provides motivation for next generation analyzer to use these codes and transmission codes. Recommendation for using external codes and internal ID in some cases where there is something unique about the test sent form the analyzer. This will aid folks with Meaningful Use, but even though it’s a US issue, we’ll learn quite a bit about use and implementation of these codes. Also been a concern from those in Switzerland.
iv. Three aims highlighted. Question as to whether this is in conjunction with IICC, IHE Lab, or LAW profile? Would there be a spreadsheet template with the fields desired for a vendor to fill out to submit their codes. It will aid with the low hanging fruit. There may be 60-70% crossmatch with the Beckman Coulter list. Commercial labs tend to differentiate their test menus. Would each vendor have a point person as the “keeper” of the LOINC code and to provide updates to the LOINC Committee.
v. Francois mentions the LCSD profile in IHE Lab (see http://wiki.ihe.net/index.php?title=Laboratory_Code_Sets_Distribution) that allows publication of a catalog of tests one to another. Messages/conversion table could be kept within the LIS and occur on that side. Vendor analyzer can provide glucose, but LIS might use that to convert to the codes reported to the physician with the result.
vi. Along the spirit of IICC working with IHE Lab, there is a suggestion for all to review these documents and provide feedback on the call in 2 weeks.

Next Call/Meeting

Next regularly scheduled IHE lab call will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 from 8:00-9:00 AM (Eastern Time, NYC)
