2nd Canadian Interoperability Showcase

e-Health 2008: Extending the Reach

May 4-7 2008, Vancouver British Columbia

The Canadian e-Health Interoperability Showcase is returning to the 2008 conference! Building on the success of the premiere in 2007, COACH: Canada’s Health Informatics Association, and CIHI, the Canadian Institute for Health Information are pleased to feature INTEROPERABILITY SHOWCASE ’08 as a centre attraction on the trade show floor at e-Health 2008.

This year the Interoperability Showcase is co-sponsored by IHE Canada and Canada Health Infoway. The leadership provided by these two organizations is integral to the entire demonstration of interoperability amongst the growing list of systems and vendor products that are being developed, implemented, and used to benefit Canadian healthcare. We are truly “extending the reach” of interoperability in Canada and we encourage you to link your promotional materials on the showcase floor to our overall conference theme.

INTEROPERABILITY SHOWCASE ’08 will build on the past year’s hugely successful Showcase in Quebec City and extend the reach of interoperability through demonstration of the Canadian EHR Agenda. This year’s extended showcase will include a host of different vendors demonstrating interoperable EHR scenarios through various interoperability use cases as well as IHE (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise) Integration Profiles, all focused around a cohesive clinical scenario(s), shortly to be developed. We will be targeting a broader list of use cases and profiles with those scenarios including: client registry, provider registry and related patient identification and demographics use cases, diagnostics imaging, laboratory information, drug information, shared health record, EHR viewers and related infrastructure (Health Information Access Layer) and cross-enterprise document sharing.

We would like to emphasize profiles and use cases that have been developed with Canadian input and are applicable to implementations and initiatives in Canada. Profiles and use cases to be demonstrated will be identified based on priority use in the Canadian EHR agenda and on vendor readiness and will be finalized by January 30 by the Showcase Task Group, in consultation with the co-sponsors and the signed up participating vendors.

In order to qualify to demonstrate at the e-Health Showcase, vendors must successfully complete prior demonstration of interoperability with multiple (3 or more) vendors using either:

• the appropriate IHE Connectathon tests at one of the events held globally OR • proof of EHR interoperability, provided to and by Canada Health Infoway, of use cases using standards designated stable for use by Canada Health Infoway.

In addition, vendors must demonstrate their role as an actor in one of the profiles or use cases that are being featured.

There is a limit of 16 vendors that will be accepted for the Showcase Floor and these vendors will be chosen on a first come - first serve basis (paid and with proven interoperability), based on the actors required for the clinical scenarios and the qualifications noted above.
