IHE LOGO Thumb.jpg

The IT Infrastructure Domain supports profiles which supply the necessary infrastructure for sharing healthcare information. An infrastructure interoperability component represents a common IT function that is used as a building block for a variety of use cases... a necessary ingredient, but rarely visible to the end user!! These components may be imbedded in an application, but are often deployed as a shared resource within a RHIO or Health Information Exchange.

This domain began in 2003, is sponsored by Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS). The ITI domain supports 18 IT Infrastructure Profiles detailed in the IT Infrastructure Technical Framework.

Supplements to the Technical Framework

Public Comments due July 13, 2007 - see http://forums.rsna.org

  • Web Services for IHE Transactions (Appendix V) This update to Appendix V, which was introduced last year as part of the Registry Stored Query Supplement, presents the general approach to specifying Web Services as the protocol for IHE transactions.
  • Retrieve Form for Data Capture (RFD) This update to RFD includes an upgrade in referenced standards as well as a slightly expanded scope. It is being released for public comment a second year to encourage expanded input on this important supplement.
  • Cross-Enterprise User Assertion (XUA) XUA provides a means to communicate claims about the user identity of an authenticated principal in transactions that cross enterprise boundaries.
  • Cross-Enterprise Document Sharing - b (XDS.b) XDS.b provides a new implementation choice for the Cross-Enterprise Document Sharing (XDS) Integration Profile based on a use of the Web Services and ebXML Registry/Repository standards that is consistent with the current developments and best practices in the industry.
  • Cross Community Access (XCA) XCA supports access of patient health information across communities. It is the first step in realizing the vision described in the white paper published last year entitled “Cross Community Information Exchange”
  • Cross-Enterprise Document Sharing (XDS) Patient Identity Merge This supplement describes the processing of the merge message by XDS actors.

White Papers

  • XDS Affinity Domain Checklist White Paper This White Paper proposes a new checklist that covers all areas that should be addressed when either setting up an XDS Affinity Domain, or extending the XDS Profile so that it meets the requirements of a particular nation, region, or institution.
  • Risk Managment This document will help IHE Profile writers address the Security Considerations section of their IHE Profile.
  • SOA and Web Services IHE Roadmap
  • Health Data Reuse Infrastructure An Interoperability Framework for accessing, processing and sharing health information for quality, public health and research.
  • HIE Security and Privacy This white paper will discuss how a Health Information Exchange that leverages IHE profiles can protect patient privacy and information security.
