Introduction

Welcome the the DEV Domain!

IHE Devices Domain, Patient Care Devices Subdomain provides a collaborative environment and members will be pleased to facilitate your participation.

This email is intended to provide additional information, however it is likely to provide significant repetition of information that is well known. Please forgive my use of this template, but it helps me know that I’ve included information that may be helpful.

We have a Planning and a Technical Committee (PC, TC), working groups (WGs) to develop technical documents and white papers and working groups that provide a collaborative environment to prepare for Connectathons and Showcases. As a member of a PCD committee or Working Group, you will regularly receive a schedule of WG and committee meetings and can join their Webex meetings and participate in any and all.

You will find the committees and WGs in the weekly meeting schedule and can request to be added to the Google Groups (GGs) supporting any of these. We also have the PCD Testing GG supporting Connectathon test development.

We use Google Groups for communication, Wiki pages for notes and activities (including notes from our Webex and Face to Face meetings), and ftp folders for archival purposes. Paul and I will be happy to add you to any GGs you are interested in. Please note that you will need to use the same email address to post as you have used to register.

Available Technical Documents Profiles currently available based upon HL7, v. 2.6 are

-Alert Communication Management (alarms to phones, pagers, displays with the ability to respond, escalate, etc.)

-Device Enterprise Communication (physiologic, operational data)

-Point of Care Infusion Verification (5 rights support through messages from a Bar Code Medication Administration system to pumps, programming the pumps for clinician approval)

-Implantable Device – Cardiac Observation (pacemaker/defibrillator data from physician to EMR)

-Rosetta Terminology Mapping Project (provides common coding for parameters, units of measure, body sites, alarms and other data)

-Infusion Pump Event Communication (IPEC) – operational data (e.g., start and stop, transition to KVO)

-Retrospective Data Query (RDQ) for retrospective access to data, useful for decision support and other purposes

-Waveform Communication Module and Pulse Oximetry Integration with Clinical Applications (POI) options within DEC

Under development are

-Device Specialization – General, Infusion Pump, Physiologic Monitors and Ventilators

-Optimized Message Syntax

-Medical Equipment Management – Device Management Communication - operational and condition content to Computerized Maintenance Management :: -Systems (CMMSs)

-Medical Equipment Management – Location Services – RTLS to CMMS messages

-Point of Care Identity Management (binding device and patient IDs)

-Continuation of work on Device Cybersecurity, alarms, and other efforts

Some of these Profiles are available for development and testing, they just aren’t finalized yet.

Participation The PCD effort is very collaborative. Most meetings are conducted on Webex, and we have two PC/TC face to face (F2F) meetings annually (participation is optional), generally in the April/May and October timeframes. The last F2F was in Nashville October 16-19 and Webex is generally available. Our next is in April 2019, location to be determined (If you want to host a F2F, please let the Technical Program Manager know).

The PCD provides significant demonstrations in the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase and at AAMI.
