The PCC Technical framework is currently being updated, with two goals in mind.

First is to support use of the ASTM/HL7 Continuity of Care Document implementation guide, and the level 3 templates expressed therein within the PCC Technical Framework.

The current document is still in draft state, and can be found here:

Technical Framework Publishing Process

A second, a more far reaching goal, is to update the PCC Technical Framework publishing process, to better support the needs of our audience. I have drafted a list of requirements for this below

Production of the IHE Patient Care Coordination Technical Framework

The technical framework is updated annually, and is published as a complete document, containing the work of the IHE Patient Care Coordination Technical Committee that is in final text form. It includes the following:

  1. Prefatory material
  2. Table of Contents
  3. Profile Descriptions (Volume I -- Profile Overviews)
  4. Technical Specifications (Volume II, Transactions and Content Profile details)
    1. Bindings
    2. Content Profiles
      1. Folders
      2. Documents
      3. Header Content
      4. Body Content
        1. Sections
        2. Entries
    3. Transactions
  5. Appendixes
  6. Glossary of Terms
  7. Indexes (where applicable, not presently used in the IHE Publishing process)

Production of an IHE Patient Care Coordination Content Profile Supplement

Content Profiles are created annually in profile supplements. A content profile may include folders, documents, header content or body content, or any combination thereof. At present, a content profile is published as a collection of changes to the technical framework, and may include references to existing content in that framework. This creates difficulties for implementers, as all relevant material is not accessible in one document.

There is a need to be able to publish ALL material relevant for a content profile in a single document, whether this information is part of the existing technical framework, another supplement, or new material. The content needs are the same as for the technical framework; with the exception that material that is not relevant to the profile will not be included.

Accessibility

The content of a profile needs to be available electronically, both as a linked, interactive HTML pages, and as a printable document, preferably in PDF format.

Content Status

Material in a profile or profile supplement should clearly indicate whether it is draft, trial use, or final text in all published formats.

Plan

Our current implementation plan is to update the current technical framework, including making some transitions towards supporting the entries found in the ASTM/HL7 Continuity of Care Document in the XDS-MS and XPHR content profiles. After that update, we plan on breaking the technical framework down into appropriate chunks of content that will be stored in the IHE Wiki. Wiki templates will be built to support development of the PCC profiles. Profile supplements, and the technical framework will be built up from the appropriate components using transclusion features of the Wiki.

These outputs will be transformed into Word or PDF format, for final publication.
