Profile Affected
XDS-MS, EDES
TF Version

Volume and Section
Volume 2 Section 5.1.1 http://wiki.ihe.net/index.php?title=PCC_TF-2#IHE_Format_Codes

Rationale

There is confusion around the use of the PCC recommended format codes (display names) within an affinity domain. In particular those of XDS-MS. Currently only one recommended format code is provided for both referral and discharge summaries which is urn:ihe:pcc:xds-ms:2007. This needs to be replaced with two new format codes:

The same principle applies to EDES, except there should be four new format codes - the current format code is urn:ihe:pcc:edes:2007. The new format codes should be:

This does not apply to xphr as the two xphr documents - extract and update - are really the same document and should be represented as such.

Note: there may also need to be a CP to ITI TF2 Section 5.1.1 where PCC format codes are listed.

Discussion 5/4/09:

  • formatCodes are not intended to be as discrete as the CP is requesting
  • add an additional column to this page PCC_TF-2#IHE_Format_Codes containing suggested typeCodes

Discussion in joint session w/ITI 5/5/09:

  • one cannot query directly on typeCode, but can query on formatCode
  • typeCode in PCC is the templateId (the document content module OID)
  • reject xds-ms changes because it is already in final text - provide direction on how to query by typeCode?? query formatcode and then you can query by typeCode?
  • accept the EDES change b/c it is not yet in final text - if we split EDES into multiple profiles this will be addressed in doing that as each new profile will need it's own format code.
  • one disadvantage of accepting this CP is that formatCode now represents the document at the same level as the typeCode - so what's the point of having both?

Further discussion 5/19/09:

  • templateIds SHOULD NOT BE USED in the code attribute of formatCode as formatCode is intended to be one code to represent a given document. A single PCC document will often have three or four template identifiers (going back to CCD's templateId of 2.16.840.1.11388.11.1.20.1).
