SNOMED CT IHE Set

In April 2019, IHE International and SNOMED® International formally announced a license agreement encouraging data consistency and interoperability across international boundaries, with benefits for clinical care, research and operational efficiency.

Through this agreement, the organizations have agreed on the production of a SNOMED CT® IHE Set which includes a jointly decided upon set of SNOMED CT concepts and identifiers within IHE profiles. See the Press Release here.

The “SNOMED CT IHE Set” was drawn from SNOMED CT Concepts referenced in current published IHE Supplements and Technical Framework Volumes. In addition, the SNOMED CT Concepts included in the agreement are (and must be) from the July 2018 (or later) SNOMED CT International Edition release.

The SNOMED CT IHE Set contains approximately #### SNOMED CT Concepts and as part of this agreement, IHE is allowed 10% growth over the next five years.

This wiki page describes the process for:

• Locating a suitable SNOMED CT Concept for reference in an IHE Technical Framework Profile or Value Set
• Adding an existing SNOMED CT Concept to the SNOMED CT IHE Set
• Requesting a new Concept if a suitable existing one is not found

When adding SNOMED CT Concepts to IHE Technical Framework Profiles or Value Sets:

1. Search the SNOMED CT IHE Set for a suitable Concept
   1. If one is found, add that Concept to the TF document and you are done.
2. If a suitable Concept is not found in the SNOMED CT IHE Set, search the SNOMED International SNOMED CT browser for a suitable Concept.
   1. If a suitable Concept is found, add it to the TF Document and fill out this form to add it to the SNOMED CT IHE Set.
3. If no suitable Concept is found on the SNOMED International SNOMED CT browser, search the Daily Build CT Browser. This browser shows the next release in preparation (there are two releases per year, on January 31st and July 31st).
   1. If a suitable Concept is found, add it to the TF Document and fill out this form to add it to the SNOMED CT® IHE Set.
4. If no suitable Concept is found:
   1. Add a placeholder in the TF Document and fill out this form thoroughly to request a new SNOMED CT® Concept in a future release of SNOMED CT International Edition.
   2. Before filling out the form, validate the need for a new Concept:
      1. Verify that this is an international need and try to capture evidence of this need from two or more countries
      2. Search for a scientific publication that will help justify the need
      3. Check the UMLS Metathesaurus for such a Concept
      4. Search the Daily Build CT Browser and determine what would be the Parent Concept of the one you are requesting
   3. Once the new Concept is received, update the TF Document and fill out this form to add it to the SNOMED CT IHE Set.

At times, it may be desired to remove a Concept from the SNOMED CT IHE Set or replace one Concept with another. Use this form for those requests.

All requests and their status, will be tracked via Google Sheets connected to the Forms. The requester will be notified when their request has been processed or if IHE has any additional questions about the request.
