Minutes

Evaluated Brief Profile Proposals. Detailed questions from discussion have been added to the page linked here

Management of Radiology Report Templates - Brief Proposal

  • Dr. Kahn presented summary of proposal
  • RSNA Reporting Committee has begun developing structured reports in xml language called relax ng
  • Goal of profile proposal is to standardize methods of accessing and using templates (rather than defining the content/structure of templates)
  • Development would need to be coordinated with other domains: IT Infrastructure and Patient Care Coordination, also Cardiology, Pathology, Cardiology
  • Relationship of xml reports to DICOM SR templates needs to be evaluated by Tech Cmte

Clinical Trial Annotation Workflow

  • David Clunie presented summary of proposal
  • Based on Dr. Rubin's suggestion will explore whether it is possible to expand to address clinical use cases
  • Currently the clinical trials use case has the greatest demand for structured data with quantitation
  • Goal is to gather the data in the course of clinical care
  • Currently most clinical trials are done on specialty workstations rather than PACS workstations

Complete the work on Imaging Object Change Management

  • Kinson Ho presented summary of proposal
  • Based on published white paper; Kinson estimates that 70% of the work on the profile is completed
  • Goal is to specify methods of managing changes to image objects in distributed environment
  • White paper contains range of use cases; some might be excluded if they are not likely to be addressed successfully
  • Gap in DICOM needs to be addressed in order to complete proposal; DICOM is awaiting input from white paper to conclude this work item
  • ebXML and HL7 MDM are other potential standards mechanisms that could be used to address the use cases

Reporting Workflow Revision - Brief Proposal

  • Proposal to refresh and possibly merge existing Post-processing and Reporting workflow profiles
  • Current profile specifies SINR; update would likely loosen this linkage
  • Consider changing from DICOM Modality Work List to UPS

Cross-Community Access - Images (XCA-I)

  • Chris Lindop presented summary of proposal
  • Has XCA been sufficiently widely adopted for us to leverage?
  • It is a new profile in ITI. There is global interest in leveraging XCA for linking communities. There is no competitor technology. Already we see some uptake in Europe. Canada is using this profile to link the regions. There may be some hold back in the USA due to a lack of National strategy.
  • Has XDS-I been sufficiently widely deployed for us to leverage?
  • Yes. It is the standard for imaging exchange throughout the world. It is being deployed Nationally in Canada, regionally in various location throughout Europe and USA.

Portable Hosted Applications in Radiology

  • Chris Lindop presented summary of proposal
  • Proposal to define standard way to extend the functionality of an imaging platform with capabilities provided by a separate application
  • Key to making this profile effective is to define a minimum API set that would make a hosted application interoperable in any clinical environment

SWF-Image Exchange option

  • Main use case is communication (eg, referrals) with care providers outside of radiology
  • Communication of results, procedure plans, etc. should be called out as separate use cases

Rad TF Maintenance 2010-11

  • Kevin O'Donnell to fill in with details of work to be done

Next Steps

  • Technical Committee will perform technical feasibility and work estimate
  • Technical Committee Meetings: Oct. 6, 10:00-11:30 CT; Oct. 22
  • Planning Committee to hold additional teleconference this Thursday, Sept. 23, 10:30-11:00 am CT to make selection of Brief Proposals for evaluation by Technical Committee
