Consistent Patient Identification in Radiation Oncology

Charter

This working group of the IHE-RO Technical Committee was formed to evaluate methods for promoting consistent patient identification in Radiation Oncology. Specifically, its focus is on developing a profile for allowing an RO Treatment Management System (TMS) to communicate patient identification to a Radiation Oncology-based imaging system such as a CT Simulator (or MR or PET system).

Two methods of information exchange have been proposed, one using Modality Worklist (using transactions similar to the Scheduled Workflow profile) or using Unified Procedure step (similarly to the Post-Acquisition Workflow profile).

Current Work

  • Call for Participation Issued: 11/1/2013
  • 9/23/2014: After 9/20/2014 TC meeting, discussion was initiated with Kevin O'Donnell and Chris Lindop regarding use of Modality PS or UPS for communication with CT-Sim systems. Kevin noted that Modality PS was well accepted and Radiology was not intending to mess with that success. Non-imaging systems, however, were being recommended (aka PAWF) to use the UPS structure.
