March 2010 Meetings

Agenda Thirty Third Meeting March 16, 3 pm EDT PCD Connectathon&Showcase 2010-03-16 Webex

  • Review of previous meetings Discussion Summaries PCD Connectathon&Showcase 2010-02-23 Webex,
  • Develop HIMSS11 Concepts: number, type of profiles/systems; number, type of stories; size and shape of structure
  • Begin developing Mini-Showcase at AAMI: companies, systems, concepts
  • Next Meeting

Agenda Thirty Fourth Meeting March 23, 3 pm EDT PCD Connectathon&Showcase 2010-03-23 Webex

HIMSS11 (Continued):

  • Identify profiles likely to be demonstrated.
- Which profiles will be shown on each wall?
- Which stories lend themselves to integration with other IHE Domains or other transactions? The attached spreadsheet reflects last week’s discussion.
  • Estimate the number of vendors for each profile.
- For PCD, alternating vendors in a story/tour needs to be minimized. E.g., if we have 5 pump vendors or 5 ACM AC vendors, how many can be used simultaneously in a single story?
  • How many “walls” might be needed?
  • From Gary:
- Act 3 Care theme Emergency Care---PCD emergency room setting feeds info to EMR or the scenario could feed into a PCD OR or ICU setting;
- Act 6 Care theme Chronic Care—patient condition does not improve CHF secondary to heart valve deterioration. Patient scheduled for surgery—moved to PCD surgery scenario;
- Act 24 Care Theme Clinical Decision support—stroke patient is directly admitted to the PCD ICU.
- Just some suggested based on last year. Would a wall not a cube be better? If PCD is on the outside, as we have been, the wall will represent ED, Surgery, ICU maybe step down. A closet for the infrastructure stretches behind the units.
- Other option is a centered pentagon. Should we drop the new horizons wall? Would it be better to include future concepts in the general scenarios?

AAMI Mini-Showcase (Continued):

  • We have a 10 x 20 booth in a prime location.
  • It is adjacent to the ACCE booth; we may collaborate on the entire 10 x 30 space.
  • AAMI will provide tables – this will largely be a table top and poster exhibit. I have the posters we used in Atlanta for reuse in Tampa.
- If necessary we can brainstorm other display techniques (e.g., a bookcase to hold displays and function like a wall).
  • There will be no exhibitor charges, and you need not be exhibiting elsewhere in the hall to participate in this activity.
- There may be a minimal charge for utilities or other support that will be shared by all, depending upon what we develop.
- ACCE has offered $2000. to help defray expenses (this may be used for handouts, etc.).
  • For discussion of feasibility only, let’s assume we use 6 x 2 foot tables in one row, 18’ long:
- Pump(s) on pole with LCD monitor, keyboard, mouse on table – 2 pump vendors to date.
- IOP – 1 vendor to date
- Bedside monitor(s) with LCD monitor, keyboard, mouse on table – 1 vendor to date.
- EMR or CIS; LCD monitor, keyboard, mouse on table – possible CIS.
- Alarm system with data from pump(s), monitor(s) and phone or display – possible AM and phone system; various ARs.
- Gateways, servers, etc. under the table.
  • The above, and more should be feasible. Those highlighted in green on the attached spreadsheet have indicated an interest in participating.
  • Determine if a table top presentation will work for the device(s) and system(s) or if we need research a better way.
- LAN provided by a participant or rented.
- Electrical power.
  • Posters from Atlanta and possibly one or two new ones.
- Posters from HIMSS10 are available for reuse (most of the inventory is attached).
- Determine if a “block diagram” or other poster is needed to explain the demonstration.
- Banner or other indication of the booth and purpose.
- We will brainstorm how best to display these, how to hang them without a wall.
  • Handouts – potentially extracting the most important parts of the HIMSS10 handout and reducing it to one double-sided page, if possible. A first draft of a greatly edited version of the handout employed in Atlanta is attached to initiate development. Please review and comment by email to me.
  • Volunteers to staff the booth – 1 volunteer to date.
  • Ken suggested a large LCD monitor showing some sort of animation which illustrates the various data paths and how they end up from the device into the EPR. Not sure exactly what this would look like but it should tell the story more dynamically than a bunch of devices and display monitors.

April 2010 Meetings

Agenda Thirty Sixth Meeting April 6, 3 pm EDT PCD Connectathon&Showcase 2010-04-06 Webex AAMI Mini-Showcase (Continued):

  • We have a 10 x 20 booth in a prime location.
- Steve Merritt's Suggestions:
Need to get the point across about "purchasable" products or timelines of when purchasable
Need to water-down the technical details as much as possible
The target audience will be less informatics-focused and more clinical-device-side and safety focused
Need to get this audience to start demanding IHE - help them understand how this reduces their costs and resource requirements.
- Individuals participating in the demonstration would need to register for the conference in order to attend the education sessions.
  • ACCE booth collaboration on the entire 10 x 30 space.
  • AAMI will provide tables – this will largely be a table top and poster exhibit. I have the posters we used in Atlanta for reuse in Tampa.

- ACCE has offered $2000. to help defray expenses (this may be used for handouts, etc.).
  • We currently assume we use 2 rows of 6 x 2 foot tables, one higher than the other:
- We still need a DOC
- LAN provided by a participant or rented.
- Electrical power.
  • Posters from Atlanta and possibly one or two new ones.

The target audience will be less informatics-focused and more clinical-device-side and safety focused
Need to get this audience to start demanding IHE - help them understand how this reduces their costs and resource requirements.
- Scott's Suggestions:
I'm not sure any of us know what their hot buttons are. I strongly suggest that we do not create a script and tour but set up our table based on themes (almost like the walls at HIMSS). As BioMeds's approach they can be asked what is of interest to them and directed to the section of the table that can demonstrate that interoperability. Once the demonstration is completed the demo person can inform the BioMed of the other interoperability offerings available and move them to that section. The table displays can possibly be segmented based on Profile so it will be easier to focus on specifics rather than generalities.
- Individuals participating in the demonstration would need to register for the conference in order to attend the education sessions.

- ACCE has offered $2000. to help defray expenses (this may be used for handouts, etc.).
  • We currently assume we use 2 rows of 8 x 2 foot tables, one higher than the other:
- We have sufficient participation to demonstrate multiple profiles.
- LAN provided by a participant or rented.
- Electrical power and other items listed in Excel spreadsheet.
  • Posters, handouts and signage:
- Posters from HIMSS10 are available for reuse (see PCD HIMSS10 Showcase for posters).
