IHE engages clinicians, health authorities, industry, and users to develop, test, and implement standards-based solutions to vital health information needs.

How to Participate in an IHE Committee

The first step is to get the stakeholder organization of which you are part to become an IHE member organization. IHE committees are made up of representatives of IHE member organizations. Member organizations include healthcare providers, medical associations, government agencies, health IT consulting and vendor organizations and standards bodies. IHE International has a tiered annual fee structure based on the type and size of your organization. You can find more information and the application to become a member organization here.

The next step is to decide which committee(s) you may want to participate in. There are currently twelve active IHE domains. Planning and technical committees in each domain perform the work of developing and disseminating IHE profiles relevant to that domain. You can find the mission of each domain on the pages linked here. You can find information on the activities of these committees and working documents on the pages linked here on the IHE Wiki.

As part of the membership application your organization can designate individuals interested in participating in specific IHE domain committees. Individuals representing member organizations can also express interest in doing so at any time by sending an email to secretary@ihe.net. Interested individuals are added to the committee’s email discussion list (generally a Google Group). They receive information about committee activities through its discussion list and can use it to ask questions and become engaged. They will be added to the committee roster by the domain committee secretary as soon as they begin to participate in committee teleconferences, meeting and other activities.

To be a voting member of an IHE domain committee requires regular participation. Committee members attain voting rights by taking part in two consecutive scheduled meetings of the committee (in-person or teleconference) and retain voting rights until they miss three consecutive scheduled meetings of the committee. These voting rules are specified in the IHE International Principles of Governance, section 5. General membership and participation questions can be directed to secretary@ihe.net.

Participation in committees is generally open to all interested stakeholders. Any IHE member organization may designate representatives.

IHE National Deployment Committees

Deployment committees are responsible for conducting activities to encourage adoption of IHE profiles including testing, education and outreach to care organizations and health authorities in their regions. They also work with domain committees where necessary to develop and publish national extensions that adapt IHE profiles to local requirements and care practices.
