IHE International’s New Membership Model Effective October 1, 2015, IHE International moved to a new fee-based membership. To ensure your organization can participate and advocate their proposal throughout the entire Planning and Development Cycle please read the information provided at the end of this email. Contact membership@ihe.net to renew today.

Why is the Call for Proposals important to you?

Electronic health records are not reaching their full potential due to the lack of interoperability that allows patients and doctors to communicate medical information. Is your organization pressured to find an effective solution? IHE International offers the technical wizards needed to solve problems, but we need volunteers who know patients, clinicians, environments of care, workflows, in order to solve interoperability challenges in the upcoming year. Now is your opportunity to voice your challenges to IHE International during the Call for Proposals, open through September 21, 2018.

Not Technically Inclined?

Technical expertise is not needed, if you are not technically inclined, let us know! We have several volunteers willing to translate the technical jargon.

All Proposals must follow the structure and format of the Brief IHE Proposal Template, specifically addressing the following:

• What is the problem you propose to solve by this proposal, and how is that problem expressed in practice (e.g., a use case)?

• How would fixing this problem improve health care in practice?

• What specific components of standards could be used to solve this problem?

• Your proposal should identify one or more potential editor(s) in the event that the proposal is selected for further evaluation

and possible development. If possible, please include some indication of the business and/or clinical case surrounding the situation

when describing the problem. For example, is there an economic motivation for addressing this problem immediately?

• International patient information exchange

Tips for a Successful Proposal

o Have a clear Objective: What is the current problem? Who is involved? What needs to be done to solve it?

o Be as specific and detailed as possible. Make sure your proposals addresses the following:

o Identify the Audience. Who does this problem affect? (Nurses, clinicians, hospitals, vendors, etc, patients)

o Identify the benefits. How will resolving this problem impact the industry/patient?

o Identify Obstacles. What are your obstacles in accessing the information you need? Include all necessary details.

o Attend the Planning Committee’s Proposal Review webinars. Webinars are designed to have proposal authors explain the proposal to the Committee’s. It’s your best chance at clarifying any questions/confusion regarding the problem you need solved.

o Come prepared with a collaborative spirit. If your proposal is accepted in the Planning Committee’s Proposal Review Webinar , we’ll need your involvement and feedback in the development process. Be willing to make yourself available to attend conference calls and work in collaboration with the committee. Attendance at the Face to Face meetings (October Planning Kick Off Meeting, November Technical Meeting and February Volume One Meeting ) is highly encouraged to secure the support for your proposal.

How to submit your Brief Proposal

Deadline: September 21, 2018 at 11:59 pm CDT

Interested parties are invited to submit a brief proposal for new IHE Profiles and/or White Papers to be considered for development in the 2018-2019 Publication Cycle.

Week of Oct. 1, 2018: Planning Committee Proposal Review Webinars	Committee participates on Planning Committee’s Proposal Review Webinar (Week 1 /2). All Proposal authors are required to present a 15 min. summary of their Brief Proposal on one of these Webinars, please anticipate participating on 1-3 webinars. Exact dates for each domain will be announced in late August. Note for IHE Members: These webinars will be decision meetings, this is a great way for your organization to maintain/regain active voting rights.
Week of Oct. 1, 2018:	Committee members participate in Planning Committee’s Proposal Review Webinar (Week 2 /2). These webinars will be decision meetings. Exact dates for each domain will be announced in late August.
October 10-11, 2018	ITI , QRPH & PCC’s 2018 Planning Proposal Evaluation Kickoff- Planning Meeting in Oak Brook, IL. [View Meeting Schedule and Events for ITI, PCC, and QRPH] We urge those who submit proposals or white papers to attend the Planning Proposal Evaluation Kickoff Meeting in person or phone. In-person advocacy has proven to be the most effective way to ensure your brief proposal are understood and accepted by the committee.
November 14-15, 2018	ITI QRPH & PCC’s 2018 Technical Proposal Evaluation Meeting- Technical Meeting in Oak Brook, IL. [View F2F Meeting Schedule and Events for ITI, PCC, and QRPH]

Proposals that are accepted at the Planning Proposal Evaluation Kickoff Meeting and given to the IHE Technical Committee for review are required to write and present a detailed proposal during the Technical Proposal Evaluation Meeting.

Summary of IHE’s Multi-Phase Proposal Process:

1. Submit Brief Proposals by September 21, 2018

QRPH, PCC and ITI Domain’s Call for Proposals closes on September 21, 2018. Submit a Brief Proposal using the attached form to the domain email listed below.

2. Planning Committee’s Proposal Review Webinars- Decision Meetings:

Save the Date! Webinars are held during the week of October 1, 2018 on WebEx.

All Proposal authors are required to present a 15 minute summary of their Brief Proposal on one of these Webinars. Exact dates for each domain will be announced in September 2018. Please anticipate participating on 1-3 webinars. These Webinars will be decision meetings and count toward retaining/obtaining active voting rights.

3. 2018 Planning Proposal Evaluation Kickoff:

Save the Date! October 10-11, 2018 in Oak Brook, IL.

We urge those who submit proposals or white papers to attend the Planning Proposal Evaluation Kickoff Meeting in person or by phone. In-person advocacy has proven to be the most effective way to ensure your brief proposal is understood and accepted by the committee.

Background on IHE International IHE International has been developing interoperable based standards, known as IHE Profiles for the HIT industry since 1998. IHE’s purpose is to bring industry stakeholders together to collaborate and develop standards-based solutions for interoperability. Systems developed in accordance with IHE communicate with one another better, are easier to implement, and enable care providers to use information more effectively.
