  • Discussion Notes from previous meetings reviewed and approved.

Action(s):

3 Vent Semantics "Pamphlet" Discussion
- Group
Status/Discussion:

The group discussed the proposed "phamplet" for capturing infusion semantics:

  • (Paul) contents of pamphlet will be captured / published in the Rosetta tables. It may also be captured in IEEE Ventilator specialization documents.
  • Fernando provided (previously) waveform files + documentation that might be used for the phamplet
See files in this FTP directory...
  • (Paul) the phamphlet should be based on a 3-wave template (pressure/flow/volume)
- Should there be a single diagram template? Yes, especially to manage complexity and to make the document more readable.
- Should the waveforms be overlaid? No ... too busy & difficult to read.
  • Visio or Word or Excel graphics?
- (Paul) can use MS Word, but need to use a few basic principles or they will quickly become difficult
- Templates should use the same time base (as much as possible)
- Could define "overlays" for various annotations
- Annotations should include: clinical terms, fiducial names, related IEEE term
  • Use one page per ventilator use case / mode
  • (Dain & Isaza) use Excel
  • A standard page layout should be used. The Siemens document would be a good example, where you have the graphic waves (3 graphs) + annotations & definitions on a single page.

Which waveforms should be included in initial draft:

  • The initial set of vent configurations such as the set in the Siemens document.
  • P/V loops should be included
  • Should include colorized wave segments
  • Provide a computable format for definitions (not just graphics)
  • Need both single and multiple breath waves
  • The level of detail in the diagrams will have to be determined as the content is developed

Note: Dr. Dain indicated that a terminology document under development, ISO 4135 that collates definitions from various standards documents may be of use to this activity. THE DOCUMENT CANNOT BE GENERALLY DISTRIBUTED OR POSTED ON ANY PUBLIC SITE.

Decisions/Issues:

  • Use MS Excel as a starting point.
  • Goal #1 is to draft a first outline draft of the booklet + template ready for review in the next vent term WebEx meeting.
  • Goal #2 is to have the document in a translatable form (e.g., XML) that can then facilitate usage.

Action(s):

  • ACTION: (Fernando) make a first pass at drafting an initial diagram template for group review.
  • ACTION: (Cooper/Wittenber) Draft initial phamphlet document version (outline).
  • ACTION: (Dain / Cooper) Steven will send the draft ISO 4135 to Todd who will forward to meeting participants including a directive not to forward the draft document nor to post it on publically accessible Internet sites.
4 Standardization of Vent Term Definitions
- Wittenber
Status/Discussion:
  • Jan Wittenber brought up the need to ensure that this definition activity is protected by an organizational umbrella, especially to ensure that intellectual property is properly managed.
  • Question: Does the group need an IEEE 11073-10105 PAR for a vent partition in the terminology?
  • Question: Do we need protection for the information that Steven is sending out "for standards development only" activities?
  • Question: What role does the IHE IP "covering" play in these discussions?
  • Need to coordinate between ISO TC121/SC4 documents + ISO/IEEE 11073-1010x + IHE ...
  • NOTE: By drafting our own diagrams, we get around copyright issues from, for example, other vendor descriptive documents. Propose how these various areas will be coordinated.

Decisions/Issues:

Action(s):

  • ACTION: (Cooper/Wittenber) Prepare a proposal for the next vent term meeting + report to the next PCD TC meeting beforehand as a RTM/Vent update.
